StudyPerth welcomes the Department of Education’s plan to promote Western Australian schools to international students, through a range of new initiatives.
Compared with other states, Western Australia has a small number of international students in its schools. The Department of Education's initiatives aim to grow this number, incrementally and judiciously, to ensure that all parties benefit.
One initiative will offer a very limited number of places to international students to study in one of seven of the Department’s most sought after schools. It is anticipated this initiative will be very popular with international students and their families, and will strengthen the brand of WA international education in overseas markets.
Teachers and students in the schools involved will benefit from the increased cultural diversity that international students bring, the university sector will receive a new source of well-qualified students, and the students themselves will receive a world-class education while enjoying all the attractions of Perth. International students, and their visiting friends and relatives, bring so much to Western Australia; they stimulate the economy and create jobs, and help establish valuable international links.
Offering a world-class education in a world-class city, Perth is ready and has the capacity and appetite for growth across all sectors.
Quotes attributable to Phil Payne, Executive Director, StudyPerth:
"Lack of access to the state's top performing public schools has been a barrier to the much-needed expansion of international education in Western Australia.
"As a result of its new designation, as part of the Federal Government’s population plan, Perth can now offer additional attractions to international students and increased opportunities for them to prosper after they complete their studies."
"As the friendliest city in Australia, and one of the most diverse, Perth has always offered a warm welcome and we are looking forward to opening the doors to more international students."
